Prospective Members

Membership in National Honor Society is by application only. Membership is highly selective, and is based on a candidate's demonstrated scholarship, leadership, character, and service.  The minimum required cumulative GPA for new members is 3.5; however, a high GPA alone does not guarantee selection.  A strong candidate form will show involvement in the school and community as well as extensive community service.  In addition, teacher recommendations should show evidence of leadership skills and strong personal character.

Prospective members must complete 40 hours of community service from at least two different non-profit 501c3 organizations between January 1st of their Sophomore year and September 30th of their Junior year. There will be a  parent and student meeting in February to answer all questions. Students will sign up for x2VOL, a platform for students to search for opportunities, track hours and reflect on experiences. If your student missed the meeting please have them go to: https://www.x2vol.com to register for x2VOL using their school email.

In the fall, there will be a candidate information meeting. Attendance at one of the following is mandatory. Meetings are usually in mid September. Check announcments and the North Notes for exact dates and times. Meeting dates and times will also be posted to the x2VOL dashboard.  At this meeting, prospective members will fill out a google doc with personal information which will allow them to gain access to a Canvas NHS class where they can find all NHS packets and materials.  Students will have about 1 week to complete their application. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.  PLEASE PLAN AHEAD. Invitations and Congratulations for membership will be sent out in late October, and the new member induction ceremony will be held in early November during dead week between fall and winter sports. All information and dates will be available for candidates on Canvas.

Please be sure to turn your application in on time, as late applications will not be considered.  Please submit them, most likely, electronically through Canvas.

If you have any questions or concerns please see Mrs. Cornelius in LMC or Mrs. Stein in room 247.
